NeurIPS attendance and travel funds [D]

Hi everyone. Since Neurips is my first A* conference, I just wanted to know few things from experienced researchers. Since travel and accommodation account for majority of expenses, how professionals and PhD guys cover the expenses in the absence of travel grant or limited funding from lab? Paying from pocket really seems to be the only option for me (travel grant requests rejected).
Another major issue is Australian visa. If visa gets delayed or rejected for some reason, does conference still include those registered papers??
