Improving local models with an API based "consultant"?

I'm sure that someone else has come up with this before, but i just wanted to ask:
Has it occurred to anyone to improve their local AI workflow by adding a more powerful API based "consultant" agent (GLM 5.2 now springs to mind) to call upon for refining plans, learnings and such?
If so, do/did you see any potential behind it?
